Columbia Sportswear strikes back with a new Star Wars collab

Announced few days ago and already sold out on-line, the new collaboration between Columbia Sportswear and Lucasfilm is and other hit.

It’s a long date partnership the one between the Portland-based brand and Star Wars franchise.
In 2016 they release a Rogue One’s characters inspired capsule collection of three very limited edition jackets, and last year the brand launched a “Echo Base” collection consisting of three unique Hoth-inspired jackets as worn by Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo.

This time the collection is not inspired by the films’ characters but it’s a more subtle linking to the franchise.
The jacket is indeed a reinvented version of the cast and crew parka from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, meant to withstand the icy sub-zero conditions of Hoth (set in Hardangerjøkulen Glacier, Norway).

With a bit of storytelling, the sportswear brand seeks to satisfy Star Wars fans with a limited edition of parka that combines a modern technology to survive brutally cold weather conditions with authentic details that include a bold blue design with security stripes, Star Wars patches, geographical filming coordinates in the lining, and a customizable name plate on the chest pocket.

The piece will be available from today at selected Columbia Sportswear brand stores at the 500 USD each, limiting the purchase to one piece per customer.

In addition, few selected stores: Seattle, Portland, New York and Disney Springs, will be selling a small number of jackets signed by Mark Hamill, aka Luke Skywalker himself, available for purchase for 1,980 USD and all proceeds will be donated to college access programs and scholarships, for a perfect marketing mix.
