A giant leap, one would say, when a legend brand close friend of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Chuck Berry to name just a few, pushes itself to the edge of sport / health wearable consumer electronic market. Gibson did it, and has just showcased at CES 2015 a new product which has nothing to do with guitars: “Trainer by Gibson” headphones set. The product wants to cater to fitness and athletic fans who love music, and has been technically developed by Onkyo and with six-time Olympic gold medalist sprinter Usain Bolt.

“Each day it’s my trainer who gets me started, and its music that keeps me going. I push my body to the limit on and off the track,” said Usain Bolt. “It takes hard work and focus to achieve my goals. Gibson understands how to harness the power of music and Trainer will help anybody who cares about fitness reach their potential.”

“Trainer by Gibson brings the power of music to motivate and enhance life experiences for fitness enthusiasts in a way that was not possible before this product.” said Henry Juszkiewicz, chairman and CEO of Gibson ”The product brings style, safety, convenience and great sound to help people reach their fitness goals.

The business objective behind this move is undoubtedly a step forward towards the integration of all Gibson Brands’ rich portfolio. In fact after acquiring Woox Innovations, the audio, video, multimedia and accessories business of Dutch electronics giant Philips, Gibson Brands is no longer a one-brand-company, but has an ambition to be ‘the global leader in music and sound’. Onkyo is one of the brands in Gibson Brands’ portfolio of 100 well-known brands in the instrument and audio markets along with TEAC, Integra, Tascam, Esoteric, and others.

Trainer by Gibson includes a light for nighttime runs, “climate regulating cushions with cutting-edge NASA space technology fabric,” weather and sweat resistance, 10 hours of battery life, and Bluetooth connectivity. The product will hit the shelves in April and retailed at 239 $.
