All the American geeks, fans of Super Mario, can celebrate: Kelloggs has officialized the launch of the eponymous limited edition cereal box, which launches December 11th.
“This powered-up partnership with Kellogg’s is another exciting way for us to expand the Nintendo brand in unique and creative ways,” said Tom Prata, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives. “We are always looking for new opportunities to bring smiles to people of all ages, and this is a fun way to kick off the day.”
Aside for the vibrant coloured box, Super Mario Odissey amiibo is included on the pack, so fans can tap on the box on the Nintendo Switch system to receive gold coins or a heart for their game.
Cereals have also been gamified, with special colours and by adding marshmallows shapes and a blast of mixed berry.
Despite the product is intended for kids, and it is only launching in the USA, the news is bouncing in the social networks, where Super Mario fans of all ages are asking if and when the product can be available in other territories.
Kelloggs UK as an example is responding via twitter and facebook to a all avid geeks asking that they “will pass the feedbacks on”. Seeing how insitent the buzz has become, could something really happen in other countries?
Expanded or not to other territories, this launch is a clear example of how the contemporary “geek”subculture influence is reaching mass market and FMCG.
