Google and Samsonite launch the hands-free connected backpack

Google defines it “A trailblazing collaboration between two leading brands”. It is true, as the Samsonite Konnect-i backpack with Google’s Jacquard technology offers a highly innovative, hassle-free travel companion that surely makes journeying much more seamless and connected than ever before.

Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) group replicated the Commuter Trucker Jacket project with Levi’s in 2016, when both brands applied Google’s “Jaquard” technology” on a denim jacket. This time the same technology is used with another global partner on travel accessories –Samsonite – to make the most of a smartphone while travelling, without using any hands or looking down to the screen.

In fact, the Samsonite Konnect-i backpack enables to pick up a call, hear text messages, shoot a selfie, play or stop songs, hear Google Maps directions, or even know when the booked cab has arrived, with a simple hand gesture (brush down or a double tap) to the strap of the backpack.

Designed to be embedded discreetly, the Jacquard Tag chip connects through the Jacquard app to the special Jaquard interatctive texture in the backpack strap to allow to control the smartphone. Plus, different light indicators glow in different colors, according the alert type, with a gentle vibration in the strap to get the attention.

The journey to the future is more and more connected.
