Montegrappa: Games of Thrones’ luxury side

As the final season of Game of Thrones nears, a series of unexpected collaborations are released.
White Walker by Johnnie Walker was the first launch we featured on these pages, followed recently by lifestyle brands like adidas and the fashion label John Varvatos.

Now Montegrappa, the Italian leading name in luxury pen manufacturer, announces the launch of ‘Winter is Here’, a set of lavish new writing instruments to premiere at Dubai’s MEFCC show (11-13 April) – the Middle East´s leading pop culture convention.

Launched in conjunction with HBO for the long-awaited Game of Thrones Season 8 airing from 14 April, Winter is Here is half pen, half objet d’art. Using the ancient jeweller’s art of lost wax casting, Montegrappa has brought the inhabitants of Always Winter to life in spectacular fashion, referring to its latest creation as “an orgy of precious metals and ice-blue sapphire”.

As the name implies, the pens – available in sterling silver and 18k gold versions – pay homage to the mysterious forces from north of The Wall. Three-dimensional effigies of the Night King and White Walker form a superstructure that encases the pen’s barrel. Above them sits an innovative cap that uses the coiled form of the ice-breathing dragon, Viserion, to fashion a pocket clip from its tail. Enamelled, crystal blue flames encircle the base of the cap, while sapphires emulate the cold, mysterious eyes unique to beings of the North.

In fact this launch follows on in Montegrappa’s limited edition named The Iron Throne created in 2017 with HBO, which replicated the swords of the seven kingdoms in minute detail, sparking delight in fan and collector forums.
